Product Care & Repair

Caring for your Jewelry

Every piece of Petit Anjou jewelry is carefully handcrafted using the finest precious metals and gemstones. These materials are delicate and it is recommended that you handle them with care. By taking a few precautions, you will be able to maintain the brilliance of your jewelry for many years.

  • Remove vermeil jewelry before bathing, exercising, and swimming.
  • Avoid direct contact with perfumes, lotions, and hairsprays. Apply these products before putting on your jewelry.
  • Do not wear jewelry when using household cleaners or bleach.
  • Do not hang pearl jewelry when storing. This will cause the silk threads to stretch out.
  • Clarté gemstone bracelets should be rolled on and off rather than stretching them.
  • Tarnish is inevitable and is a natural process that occurs when sterling silver reacts with elements in the air, such as moisture, creating a darkened layer on the surface. Even gold vermeil pieces, which have a silver base, will experience tarnishing over time. This is simply the metal’s way of protecting itself from environmental exposure.
  • To restore the original shine, tarnish on sterling silver and vermeil pieces can easily be removed with a silver polishing cloth, which is specially designed to lift away the oxidation. Regular use of a polishing cloth will help keep your jewelry looking its best. **Note: Please buff vermeil pieces GENTLY, as the polishing compounds can remove the gold plating over time.
  • To prevent tarnish, it’s best to store your jewelry in an airtight container when not in use. A simple and effective solution is to use a zip-sealed plastic bag, which reduces exposure to air and humidity, slowing down the tarnishing process. You may also wish to store a small packet of desiccant crystals with your pieces to help absorb any moisture in a humid environment.
